Job Description
Join Courier Health as the first dedicated legal hire, reporting directly to the CFO. You will build the legal infrastructure for a high-growth Series B company, ensuring smooth operations and serving as a trusted strategic resource for leadership. Your responsibilities will include evaluating and expanding legal frameworks, partnering cross-functionally, providing strategic risk judgment, overseeing compliance and regulatory risk, and designing legal processes that run at scale. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match, unlimited PTO, paid parental leave, healthy lifestyle stipend, and an employee referral program.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and making sound risk calls without perfect information or a full playbook
- Track record of being trusted by cross-functional partner
- Ability to make complex legal concepts clear and actionable for non-legal stakeholders at every level of the organization
- J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in New York or another U.S. jurisdiction
- Working knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data privacy: fluent enough to spot issues, ask the right questions, and know when to bring in specialized outside counsel
- 8–12+ years of legal experience, ideally including meaningful time in-house at a technology or healthcare technology company
- A builder's mentality: you like creating systems and processes, not just reviewing individual documents
- Strong executive presence and comfort presenting to and advising senior leadership
- Deep experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts: SaaS SOWs, MSAs, BAAs, vendor agreements, and partnership structures
- Prior experience as a company's first or sole in-house counsel
- Experience supporting fundraising rounds, equity management, or board governance
- Familiarity with state privacy law (CCPA, CPRA) and evolving AI/data governance frameworks
- Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, or digital health environments
