Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a motivated, hands-on Highway Construction Inspector IV to support major transportation infrastructure projects throughout Texas, Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, safety, and long-term performance of roadway and transportation improvements for the TXDOT, LADOT and other public agency clients.

The Inspector IV is a Senior Field Inspector on Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) teams for transportation projects. Clients are public owners such as state DOTs, toll authorities, parishes, counties and cities. The role verifies that contractor work meets plans, specifications and contract requirements. It leads other inspectors on complex operations such as bridge, paving, drainage and structures work.

This role reports to the Construction Engineer or Resident Engineer. It typically directs Inspectors I–III and coordinates testing technicians.

This position requires working in Louisiana and requires Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LA DOTD) certifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect daily contractor operations for compliance with plans, specifications, special provisions and approved submittals. Covers roadway, bridge, drainage, concrete, asphalt, earthwork and traffic control.
  • Lead and assign work for Inspectors I–III on multi-crew or multi-shift operations. Train junior inspectors in procedures and documentation.
  • Prepare complete, accurate daily work reports and diaries. Document weather, equipment, labor, quantities, issues and photos in the owner's system (SiteManager / HeadQuarters or equivalent).
  • Measure and calculate pay quantities. Reconcile them with the contractor and support monthly estimates.
  • Coordinate and witness sampling and testing according to the owner's sampling and testing schedule. Verify that materials are certified and approved before use.
  • Inspect and document work zone traffic control. Report deficiencies and require corrections.
  • Monitor stormwater (SWPPP / SW3P) and environmental permit compliance.
  • Find nonconforming work early. Notify the Construction Engineer and track it to resolution.
  • Help with RFIs, field changes and change order documentation by giving field observations and quantities.
  • Attend preconstruction, progress and safety meetings. Coordinate with utility crews and local agencies in the field.
  • Help with punch lists, final inspections, as-built markups and final records.

Skills and Working Conditions

  • Clear, factual written documentation. Daily reports may be used as evidence in disputes and claims.
  • Able to communicate firmly and professionally with contractor superintendents and foremen.
  • Basic computer skills, including tablets, Microsoft Office and photo documentation.
  • Work is outdoors at active construction sites, around heavy equipment and live traffic, in all weather. Night and weekend shifts are required on some projects.
  • Must be able to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders and embankments, and lift up to 50 lb.
  • Travel within Texas and Louisiana is required. Relocation to the project site may be required for some assignments.
