Software Engineering Manager (Billing)

Join Render, a fast-growing cloud platform, as a Software Engineering Manager for the Billing team. In this mission-critical role, you will lead the organization responsible for accurate, reliable, and transparent billing as Render scales. You will set the multi-quarter strategy, own the technical direction, and partner with Finance, Product, and Customer Experience leadership. This is an opportunity for a seasoned technical leader to build the organization, the leaders, and the systems that keep billing accurate as usage, pricing, and the customer base grow.

• Lead and grow the Billing engineering team, which owns how Render turns platform usage into accurate charges.
• Own the roadmap for Render’s billing systems, from usage metering through invoicing, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
• Drive billing correctness and reliability: build the monitoring, reconciliation, and testing that catch errors before customers do.

• Background from either a startup or a larger company is fine. What matters is experience and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
• Hands-on experience with usage-based billing, payments, or other revenue-critical systems, including third-party platforms like Orb, Metronome, or Stripe
• Strong people leadership — the top priority for this role
• Strong business instincts, with the ability to connect engineering investment to billing accuracy, revenue, and customer trust
• Experience managing engineers; including senior and staff engineers; hiring, and performance management
• Ability to partner closely with Finance, Product, and Customer Experience without needing to fill those functions yourself
• Comfort operating in ambiguity, with adaptability and a growth mindset
• Hands-on enough to review code, prototype, and contribute directly when it helps the team
• Proven experience building and scaling teams, ideally growing a group from a handful of engineers into a larger org
• Background in distributed systems or event-driven architectures
