Engineering Manager (Governance & Access)

Join Render, a fast-growing startup in the cloud computing space, as an Engineering Manager for Governance & Access. In this role, you will lead a small team responsible for building security, governance, and access capabilities for our platform. You will shape the team's structure and roadmap, make key technical and architectural decisions, and coach and develop engineers. • Lead and grow the Governance & Access team, owning the roadmap for governance, identity and access management, roles and permissions, and related compliance and security capabilities.
• Make key technical and architectural decisions for access, identity, and governance systems, balancing security, usability, and speed.
• Partner with product and design teams to align the roadmap with customer and platform needs, ensuring the capabilities extend to agents operating on Render.

• Ability to partner closely with product and design without needing to fill those functions yourself
• Experience building and scaling a team from an early stage
• Comfort operating in ambiguity, with the flexibility to adapt and grow as the team's scope evolves
• A track record of managing and developing engineers, including hiring and performance management
• Background from either a startup or a larger company is fine. What matters is the ability to operate at pace
• Strong people leadership - the top priority for this role

• Experience managing senior (IC5-level) engineers
• Experience in security, governance, or access management (IAM, RBAC, compliance)
• Background in developer platforms or B2B SaaS products
• Exposure to building for AI agents or agentic systems
