American Red Cross Instructor

The University of New Mexico Recreational Services is seeking motivated American Red Cross Instructors to join our campus recreation aquatics and safety education teams. Under the guidance of the Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Coordinator, instructors plan, schedule, and deliver official Red Cross safety certification courses to the UNM community. This position handles the instruction of professional and community certification classes, including Lifeguarding, Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid.

This role offers flexible scheduling designed to accommodate a student’s academic commitments.

Key Responsibilities

Course Delivery Instruction :

• Teach American Red Cross certification courses, including Lifeguarding, BLS, CPR/AED, and First Aid, following standard safety guidelines.

Curriculum Compliance

Plan, organize, and conduct training sessions strictly utilizing the official American Red Cross Training Provider Curriculum.

Skill Assessment

Competently evaluate participants' physical skills, cognitive knowledge, and emergency scenario responses to verify certification readiness.

Course Administration

Maintain precise attendance logs, complete and submit digital course records via the Red Cross Learning Center, and prepare all necessary physical equipment (manikins, AED trainers, pocket masks, bag-valve-mask resuscitators).

Facility Safety Supervision

Actively monitor training environments (classroom and pool deck) to eliminate hazards and strictly enforce all aquatic facility policies.

Operational Flexibility

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisory staff to support safety education and facility operations.
