Firmware Engineering Intern (Winter 2027)

Join Figure, an AI Robotics company, as a Firmware Engineering Intern for Winter 2026. You will support the implementation and testing of key aspects of our humanoid robot software. Your responsibilities will include delivering high-quality C/C++ code, debugging and validating firmware, optimizing performance, developing test scripts in Python, and contributing to the integration of projects into the CI/CD infrastructure. This is a full-time, in-office position based in San Jose, CA.

• Deliver high quality C/C++ code in a real-time embedded environment, and optimize performance of firmware to meet product requirements.
• Bring up, debug, and validate firmware on the Humanoid hardware platform, such as actuators, sensors, power distribution system.
• Develop test scripts in Python to support test automation or robot calibration, and contribute to the integration of projects into the Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) infrastructure.

• Fluent with C/C++ and Python
• Comfortable using lab instruments (Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers…) and debugging tools
• Familiar with communication buses and protocols like CAN, SPI, I2C, UART etc
• Good knowledge of computer architecture and real-time operating systems
• Graduate student, senior student, or recent graduate in Computer Engineering or related field
• Ability to showcase extra-academic activities working on hardware/software projects
• Minimum 10 weeks internship, 1 to 2 terms preferred
• Experience with low level communication protocol driver development, Ethernet and CAN preferred
• Demonstrated taking features or products from cradle to grave with high levels of ownership
• Experience with motor control systems
• Experience with the Bazel build system
• Experience with Docker containers
