Job Description

Girls Who Code (GWC) is seeking a full-time Manager, Events to lead the strategy, planning, and execution of a portfolio of virtual and in-person events that engage students, corporate partners, their volunteers, and other key stakeholders. Reporting to the Senior Events Manager, the Events Manager will serve as a primary relationship owner for corporate partners throughout the event lifecycle and will work closely with the Development, Programs, Marketing & Communications, and other cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality experiences that advance GWC’s mission and organizational goals.

This role is responsible for taking events from concept through execution and evaluation, balancing participant experience, partner needs, organizational priorities, and operational feasibility. The ideal candidate is a highly organized and strategic event professional who can independently manage multiple complex projects, build trusted relationships with external partners, make sound decisions in a dynamic environment, and identify opportunities to improve how GWC plans and delivers events.

This is a NYC based, hybrid role, requiring 2 in-office days per week.

Responsibilities:

Event Portfolio Strategy, Planning & Execution

  • Own the end-to-end planning and execution of a portfolio of virtual and in-person events, including workshops, networking events, field trips and other participant experiences.
  • Develop and manage event timelines, milestones, and deliverables from initial concept through post-event wrap-up.
  • Serve as the primary event lead for assigned events, independently identifying risks, resolving challenges, and making recommendations that balance participant experience, partner objectives, operational feasibility, and organizational priorities.
  • Lead event production, including run of show development, speaker preparation, technical/platform setup, venue logistics, vendor coordination, and day-of execution.
  • Evaluate events and use participant, partner, and internal feedback to improve future programming, processes, and event experiences.

Corporate Partner Relationship Management

  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for corporate partners throughout the event lifecycle, from initial planning and goal-setting through execution and post-event follow-up.
  • Facilitate planning conversations with partners to define event objectives, audience, format, content, speakers, volunteer roles, and desired outcomes.
  • Advise partners on event structure and participant engagement, translating their interests and expertise into meaningful experiences for GWC community members.
  • Manage partner expectations, timelines, approvals, and deliverables while advocating for GWC’s mission, participant needs, and brand.
  • Lead partner meetings, run-throughs, and event briefings, ensuring speakers, volunteers, and other partner participants are well prepared.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Leadership

  • Communicate complex information clearly and effectively, tailoring updates and recommendations to executives, corporate partners, internal teams, volunteers, and other audiences.
  • Regularly solicit and integrate feedback from stakeholders to improve event strategy, team processes, and participant experience.
  • Contribute to broader event strategy, planning, and process improvements beyond individual events or assigned projects.

Event Operations, Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop, document, and improve scalable event production processes, templates, systems, and best practices.
  • Monitor event registration, attendance, engagement, and other relevant metrics; identify trends and opportunities and communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Support the development of tools, resources, and training materials that enable colleagues, partners, volunteers, and other stakeholders to successfully participate in GWC events.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional experience in event management, event production, project management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing multiple events or projects simultaneously, from initial planning through execution and evaluation.
  • Experience managing external partners, clients, sponsors, or vendors, with the ability to build trust, communicate expectations, and navigate competing priorities.
  • Strong event production and project management skills, including experience developing timelines, run of shows, production plans, budgets, and logistical plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions, solve problems proactively, and manage stakeholders with minimal oversight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly and tailor messaging to different audiences.
  • Experience leading meetings, coordinating project teams, and driving deliverables, deadlines, and handoffs.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain a strategic perspective and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort learning and using new technology and event platforms; experience with tools such as Zoom Events, Google Workspace, and project management systems preferred.
  • Experience working with nonprofit, education, or youth-serving organizations preferred.
  • Public speaking, facilitation, or emceeing experience is a plus.
  • Computer Science experience is not required.
  • Strongly preferred: Commitment to Girls Who Code’s mission to close the gender gap in technology fields through a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
