Staff Developer Infrastructure Software Engineer

Join Coinbase as a Staff Developer Infrastructure Software Engineer. In this role, you will own the tools and systems that every Coinbase engineer relies on to build and ship software. You will set the technical direction for complex, cross-cutting problems and lead their delivery from ambiguous problem statements through production operation. You will also drive step-change improvements to key metrics and lead strategic initiatives across multiple teams.

• Ownership of tools and systems that enable Coinbase engineers to build and ship software, including CI/build systems and deployment orchestration.
• Setting technical direction for complex, cross-cutting problems and leading their delivery from ambiguous problem statements through production operation.
• Driving step-change improvements to key metrics such as build and CI wall time, deploy speed and safety, and developer feedback latency.

• Deep operational expertise with production systems where downtime has a broad blast radius, including designing for reliability, observability, and fast recovery from day one
• Proven ability to drive alignment on ambiguous, cross-functional problems and to raise the technical bar around you through mentorship, design review, and clear written and verbal communication
• Demonstrated technical leadership on cross-team initiatives: setting architectural direction, driving org-wide alignment, and making decisions that held up at scale, while staying close enough to the code to lead by example
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality
• 8+ years building and operating production distributed systems, with hands-on proficiency in Go or a comparable systems language and direct experience in CI/CD, build systems, or deployment tooling
• Track record of designing and shipping high-impact backend or platform systems that many engineers and services depend on, owning them from ambiguous problem statements through long-term production operation
