Substation Technician I

Job Purpose

This is a qualified Substation Technician I (Journeyman Substation Technician) position. Performs maintenance and testing of all substation equipment. The Substation Technician I works under the direction of the Lead Substation Technician on a multi-person crew maintaining substation equipment or other assigned duties as necessary.

Primary Functions

Work with other Substation Technicians to maintain or test all substation equipment under the leadership of the Lead Substation Technician; Perform High Voltage (HV) Low Voltage (LV) switching activities; Review job assignments and safety procedures each morning with Lead Substation Technician and other Substation Technicians as required; Assist in preparing vehicle for next assignment with tools and equipment for their crew; Help ensure all job-related equipment needs, crew needs, etc. are met (i.e. tools available, trucks are stocked, parts available, etc.); Review training and requirements (field book) for Substation Technician II and III and help prepare underclass substation technicians for promotional assessments; Assist Lead Substation Technicians by providing evaluative information on underclass substation technicians for performance appraisals; Perform other duties as assigned.
