Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research in environmental engineering; more specifically in the areas of microplastic pollution, water quality and water treatment. The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the fate and transport of microplastics throughout water treatment processes with four specific tasks: Detail the occurrence (microplastic quantity and type) and partitioning (between water and sludge) of microplastics for each water treatment process by on-site sampling in one water treatment plant.
Uncover the mechanisms controlling the removal of microplastics in each water treatment process by using the on-site measurements and possibly numerical models. Synthesize approaches to optimize the removal efficiency of microplastics in the plant with data and consultation with the plant staff. Analyze and summarize research data and results and generate research reports and journal manuscripts.
Assist in project management, laboratory management, and student mentoring.
