Director of Internal Communications

Join Handshake, a rapidly growing company that has expanded from one business into two in under two years. As the Director of Internal Communications, you will own and run the internal communications function, working closely with the leadership team to create a clear and consistent internal story. You will design the systems, select the tools, and earn a seat at the leadership table as an embedded partner. This is a senior individual contributor role that does not manage a team.

• Own and run the internal communications function, building a clear and consistent internal story in partnership with leadership.
• Design and implement systems, select tools, and establish a rhythm for internal communications across the organization.
• Serve as the C-suite internal communications partner, ensuring leadership communication is clearer, more consistent, and more trusted.

• Trusted advisor to senior leadership, comfortable giving candid counsel
• Skilled at translating complex, technical work into clear, plain-language narratives
• Proven ability to build communications systems and processes from scratch
• AI-native working style, using AI to gather, draft, and measure communications work
• 8–12 years in internal/employee or executive communications, including a tour scaling internal comms through rapid company growth
• Comfortable working cross-functionally across People, Legal, Marketing, and Product/Engineering
• Data-literate, comfortable setting benchmarks and reporting results to executives
• Strong judgment and discretion with sensitive or high-stakes material
• Bonus: experience at an AI company, post-acquisition integration, employer brand, or event production
• Exceptional writer, able to write convincingly in a founder-CEO's voice
