Job Description
Description:
At Tesla, we’re accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy by deploying cutting-edge Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) that power utilities, commercial, and industrial applications, including innovative microgrids. As our Industrial Storage fleet grows rapidly, we’re looking for a hands-on Engineering Technician to support the commissioning of these systems. In this role, you’ll work alongside commissioning engineers and field teams to help bring renewable energy projects online efficiently and reliably. If you enjoy practical problem-solving, working directly with electrical, mechanical, and control systems, and contributing to the fast-paced rollout of energy storage solutions, this is your opportunity to make a real impact.
You’ll collaborate with engineers, field service technicians, and external partners to support the commissioning of BESS, SCADA, and Balance of Plant systems. Your focus will be on executing tests, collecting data, performing equipment checks, and assisting with troubleshooting across inverters, battery modules, thermal systems, digital controls, and communication networks, both on-site and remotely. We’re seeking someone who is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and eager to learn while helping drive continuous improvement in deployment processes.
Responsibilities:
Support Commissioning Execution: Assist with on-site and remote commissioning activities for projects of varying scales, helping ensure proper integration of BESS in utility, commercial, industrial, and microgrid environments
Perform Testing and Data Collection: Conduct equipment walk-downs, functional tests, and performance verifications; accurately record test data and document results in clear reports
Assist with Troubleshooting: Support diagnosis and resolution of hardware, software, firmware, and network issues during commissioning under the guidance of engineers, helping minimize downtime and optimize system performance
Maintain Documentation and Tools: Help develop, update, and organize commissioning procedures, checklists, and supporting materials; contribute to basic tools and data collection for site-level insights
Ensure Safety and Quality: Follow all safety protocols, verify proper installation and setup against drawings and specifications, and support smooth handover of systems to operations and maintenance teams
Customer and Team Support: Assist in explaining basic system status and resolutions to internal teams and customers as needed; participate in site walks, startups, and training activities
Requirements:
Degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in electrical, mechanical, electronics, or a related technical field
Technical Skills: Strong practical knowledge of electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems, with experience using diagnostic tools, test equipment, and basic data logging. Familiarity with digital network protocols (e.g., CAN, TCP/IP, Modbus) and comfort working with systems running Linux-based applications is highly desirable
Hands-On Experience: 2–5 years of experience in equipment installation, testing, maintenance, commissioning support, or field service in industrial or energy-related environments
Attention to Detail: Excellent record-keeping skills and the ability to produce clear, accurate documentation, diagrams, and reports
Collaboration and Communication: Strong teamwork abilities with good oral and written communication skills; comfortable working with cross-functional teams and external partners
Travel and Adaptability: Willingness to travel regionally to support on-site commissioning activities; comfortable working in field environments alongside technicians and construction teams
Mindset: Eager to apply practical problem-solving, learn new systems quickly, and contribute to improving processes in the renewable energy space
