Day-to-day responsibilities of this position

• In this Mediator position, you will be able to apply your active listening, conflict resolution, and negotiating skills with parties, to resolve employment discrimination, fair housing, and wage claim cases for the State of Utah.

Your roles and responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

• Facilitating viable and effective solutions for all parties involved in administrative proceedings before the Labor Commission’s Antidiscrimination and Labor and Adjudication Divisions..
• Managing emotionally charged situations and resolving conflict.
• Encouraging parties to consider both the strengths and weaknesses in their legal positions as they explore a possible settlement.
• Using creativity and ingenuity when exploring ways that parties may successfully reach a resolution.
• Quickly and efficiently assessing the relevant facts as stated by both parties, identifying the legal issues in order to understand the overall context of the dispute, and evaluating the legal dispute, the interests of the parties, and potential risks for the disputants.
• Drafting settlement agreements that accurately reflect the terms of the settlement.
• Receiving and responding to inquiries regarding dispute resolution services.
• Working with the parties to finalize all required documentation in a timely manner once a settlement agreement is reached.
• Conducting mediations and finalizing settlement documentation within specified time frames.
• Documenting all actions related to assigned cases.
• Maintaining neutrality in disputes.
• Preserving strict confidentiality.
