Job Description
Join Tonal, a leading connected fitness company, as the Head of People. In this senior director role, you will oversee the entire People & Culture function, shape the company's talent philosophy, compensation and equity, and culture for its next phase of growth. You will lead talent acquisition, performance management, and manager and leadership development, as well as own Tonal's compensation, benefits, and equity philosophy. Additionally, you will shape a high-performance, values-driven culture, run scalable, compliant People operations, and own the workplace experience across Tonal's hubs. You will lead and develop a team of approximately 10 people.
- Own Tonal's People strategy and roadmap, leading org design and workforce planning in alignment with the budget and headcount plan.
- Lead talent acquisition, employer brand, performance management, and manager and leadership development to build the pipeline of leaders Tonal needs next.
- Shape a high-performance, values-driven culture, measure and act on employee sentiment, and own people communications.
- Bachelor’s preferred; MBA or MS in HR a plus
- Strong command of US federal, state, and local employment law, including multi-state wage-and-hour for hourly and retail employees, and Canadian employment law
- Experience at a venture- or PE-backed, high-growth company; consumer hardware, connected fitness, or health tech a plus
- Has designed compensation and equity programs at a late-stage private company and worked with a board or compensation committee
- Has modernized HR systems and uses people analytics
- 10+ years in HR, including 4+ years leading a full People function
- Earns trust quickly and unifies teams, with drive and urgency balanced by humility and humor
- A business leader first: understands how Tonal makes money, brings a point of view on talent, cost, and organization to the executive table, and pushes back when it matters
- Raises the bar on talent and holds leaders accountable, with the judgment and discretion to handle hard people situations well
- Hands-on and data-driven: rolls up their sleeves and uses data to make decisions and measure what works
- If your experience aligns with what we’re looking for (even if you don’t check every single box), send us your application. We would love to hear from you!
